Blue Hill Consolidated School

Chess Team

The BHCS Chess Team is a strong and enthusiastic group of elementary and middle school students.  Hard work and dedication are the hallmarks of our team.  Formed in 2014 under the guidance of our coach, Cameron Wendell, we have grown as individuals as well as a competent team. We won the 2014 Maine State, K-6 Championship Division. In 2015 we won the Maine State, K-8 Championship Division. Both years we represented Maine at the U.S. Chess Federation National competition. At Nationals in 2014 we came in 18th place as a team. In 2015 we tied for 2nd place out of 31 teams!

Individually chess teaches us patience, determination, and courage. As  team members we learn how to support one another, cooperate with and be respectful of teammates, coaches and opponents. Of course we also have lots of fun!
