CHARLIE VOLKWEIN Wins Geographic BEE

Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - Charlie Volkwein, son of Edward and Regina Volkwein of Blue Hill, placed first in the annual Geographic Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The second and third place winners were Beth Ann Avery, 7th grade, and Nick Niehoff, 6th grade, respectively. Charlie will now take a written examination to be submitted to the National Geographic Society in order to qualify for the April 4th competition at the state level. The winner at the state level then competes in the national Bee in May, moderated by Alex Trebek. The national winner receives a $25,000 college scholarship. Congratulations and Good Luck, Charlie!
