Be well!

After a week of anticipation, clues, and creative guesswork by students, we have finally revealed this year’s school theme: Be well! We are very excited about this theme, as being well means being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. It also can be broadened beyond immediate personal wellness to include the health of our friends, our community, our country, and the planet. In the spirit of being well, we have decided that next Wednesday will be Tell a Joke Day at BHCS. Research shows that laughter reduces stress and can be heart-healthy. All students are encouraged to memorize or bring a copy of their favorite joke (appropriate for school, of course!).

Imogen, we're proud of you!

Yesterday in Washington, D.C., BHCS 8th grader Imogen Page took part in rounds 1-3 of the National Spelling Bee. She took a written test of 25 words in round 1, then took the stage to correctly spell cowardice and schadenfreude in the next 2 rounds. Despite her success onstage, she did not score high enough on the written test to move on. Imogen's success in spelling the last two years has provided our school with much excitement, as we competed vicariously through her. Thank you Imogen!

Go to http://www.wusa9.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=86488&catid=187 and wait for the video in the upper right corner of the screen to load to watch a Washington, D.C. news interview of Imogen.

Congratulations Imogen Page!

Last Saturday, after helping the BHCS Jazzband successfully defend its state title in the morning, Imogen travelled to Lewiston, where she represented Hancock County in the state spelling bee. She outlasted all other competitors to repeat as the State of Maine Spelling Champion! As champion, Imogen will be travelling to Washington, D.C. in May to compete in the nationals. Imogen's winning word was "prodigal."
