Weekly Newsletter

September 5, 2008
Dear parents,
It has been a terrific first week back to school for me as well as for
your child as second graders! You child has been having a lot of fun,
working hard, and staying busy. I hope they have enjoyed this week as
much as I have. It was good to see all of you that came to the picnic
last night as well as to visit in the classroom.
Starting next week the students will be writing the classroom
newsletters on Fridays most of the time. Sometimes I will write one or
may add information to their newsletter as is required.
Starting on Monday your child will be in guided reading groups, which
is the same program as last year. This week students read each day but
not necessarily in their level. This year each student will have a “My
Reading At Home Log” sheet that needs to stay in his or her homework
folders. They should record their book each night when they read and
have an adult initial it. Love notes will be available for students
only if they want to use them this year.
We will be starting spelling formally the Monday after our September
19th conference day. On that day I will introduce the program to all of
you and give you samples of work for home that your child has practiced
here at school already.
We have started the Everyday math program and it seems to be off to a
good start so far! Math homework will be coming home on yellow paper
just like last year and it will not start for another week or two.
Please do not stress too much when homework is difficult for your
child. They can always bring it in the next day for additional help.
Sometimes the homework is based on a new concept they are just
learning.
We will be officially starting our first science/social studies unit
on Monday. We have a lot of fun activities planned. There will be more
updates on this as we progress.
You should have a lunch schedule for next week on the blue school

Welcome Letter

August 28, 2008

Hello second graders and parents,
I am really excited about having everyone back in the classroom and
hope you are too. I think Paul and Wally will be excited too! I have
the classroom all ready for all of you and am looking forward to the
start of school. I have many exciting things planned for our second
grade year together!
Until then, I hope to see you at the fair, and have a wonderful last
summer weekend!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hally
